Is The Whole Country Watching ND?

Your new little baby means booties and toys
Happiness, sunshine and hundreds of joys!
This new delivery means love every day,
What wonderful times are coming your way!

The answer to, Is The Whole Country Wathing ND?, is probably yes but they have also included other states, TX being the newest to adopt controversial abortion laws.

Here is a study by Guttmacher Institute reporting that women listed the following amoungst their reasons for choosing to have an abortion.

Having a baby would dramatically change my life

I cannot afford a baby now

I do not want to b a single mother or having relationship problems

I have completed my chid bearing days

I am not ready for another (or a) child

I do not want people to know I had sex and got pregnant

I do not feel mature enough to raise a (or another) child

My partner wants me to have an abortion

There are possible problems affecting the health of the fetus

I am concerned about my health

My parents want me to have an abortion

1% were the victim of rape

And less than 0.5% became pregnant as a result of incest.

One person had this to say. "There are so many loving couples out there that would love to adopt a baby and would be willing to adopt from unwanted pregnancies. Someone has to speak for the unborn child. Too many women use Abortion as a BIRTH CONTROL method. THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE!

What about Birth Control? That is the way to prevent prgnancies and actually plan for when you really want a baby.

This is how a person can make a Birth Control decision on the type of birth contraol method. Source: Adapted from WHO, 2007

From the best to the least effective:

*Abstinence

*Vascetomy

*IUD, implant

*LAM (for 6 months) breastfeed often, day and night
*Shot

*Pill - take the pill every day

*Ring, Path - keep in place, change on time

*Diaphragm

*Male Condom

*Female Condom

*Withdrawal

*Cervical cap

*Sponge

*Spermicide - use correctly every time you have sex

*Fertility awareness based method. Abstain or use condoms on fertile days.

As you can see, there are many different ways to plan pregnancies.

But no matter what you are, pro or con, just remember that love is more important than coming to believe that YOU are right.

Is The Whole Country Watching ND?

Part 2, Welcome back.

The bills passed by the ND Legislature in March, bar abortions if a fetal heartbeat is heard, which can be as early as 6 weeks into a pregnancy;  ban abortions prompted by genetic defects and require abortions doctors have admiting privileges.  They become law on August 1st unless a court blocks them.

In today's newspaper it says that North Dakota residents will vote in 2014 on a ballot measure that defines life as starting at conception.

Roe v Wade a 1973 Supreme Court ruling, legalized abortion until a fetus can survive outside the womb, usually at about 24 weeks.

It was just learned today, that Texas lawmakers have just approved a very strict Abortion law at the end of a Texas Legislature's special session.  Senate Bill 5 will ban abortion after the 20th week of pregnancy, require doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals and limit abortions to surgical centers.

Letters to the Editor in the Bismarck Tribune went something like this.......

PRO
"Thank you Gov. Jack Dairymple for signing HB 1350, HB1456 and SB2305.  Growing up in North Dakota has forced me to shrug off all the bumpkin, redneck hetoric with which much of the nation has flagged our state.  So it is with great pleasure that I listen to the news reporters and read articles praising a job well done in our state.  And rightly so, for the citizens of North Dakota enjoy the lowest unemployment in the nation, low taxes, a budget surplus, the cleanest air, high test scores and have now acted to become the safest state for the pre-born."

CON
"Emotional zealotry trumped good goverance on the reproduction rights issues.  By not vetoing the bills sent to him, Gov. Jack Dairymple avoided the wrath of the zealots who are intent on tearing the Republican Party apart, not to mention the cost they have imposede on us, the taxpayers, to defend the constitutionality of these over reaching laws.

Disappointed?  Yes, I am.  As a conservative Republican woman, I truly hope for better, but we lose some and we win some."

Facebook chimmed in.......

Steve Metzger wrote:  "I, like most, listened in horror to the story of the mother who drowned all of her children in the bath tub.  Not one person says it was OK!  We were all shocked!  But many of you go on a forum like this and with rage in your heart, rage against the state because it doesn't want you to kill your unborn baby.  I don't see any difference.  It is rare that I am a single issue person, however this is one of those that I cannot help.  I just don't want to hear or see your vile crap about WHY you think you should be allowed to kill unborn babies. I refuse to go to my grave, hopefully to face Jesus, and try to explain to him how I even gave your view one second of my time."

In response to Steve's comments, Karen Silbernagel Danley wrote:  "I respect your desire to speak your thoughts.  In respect for myself, I respectfully disagree with you.  I have never had an abortion
and I absolutely LOVE children.  However I do not think it is anyone's right to legislate that I would have to carry a child that was the result of rape, or put the baby's life above mine, or force me to carry a child that was severely deformed.  I am not saying I wouldn't choose these options if faced with these decisions, however, I do not believe it should be legislated.  The decision is much more complicated."

I will finish this article tomorrow.

Is The Whole Country Watching ND?

Why would the whole country be watching North Dakota?

Probably because the Legislators passed, and the Governor signed, some very controversial legislation in regard to Abortion. This occured around the last week or two in March, 2013.

House Bill 1456 requires a Physician to determine whether there is a detectable heartbeat prior to performing an abortion. A Physician who willingly performs an abortion after the detection of a heartbeat could be subject to a Class C Felony.

House Bill 1305 will make it a Class A misdeameanor to a physician to willingly, performs an abortion based specifically on gender or on genetic abnormalaties.

Senate Bill 2305 requires physicians providing abortions to be licensed in the State of North Dakota and to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.

National groups quickly responded to the bills' signings. The New York based Center for Reproductive Rights already committed itself to assisting Fargo's Red River Women's Clinic in a challenge to HB1456.

Priests for Life, a national Catholic Organization in New York, opposed to abortion, issued a statement praising Governor Dairymple.

Tomorrow I will post some of the responses, both pro and con to the legislation.

My Next Few Weeks in North Dakota

North Dakota is a state with NO Financial Problems and very little Unemployment. There are the normal things to do, golfing, tennis, go to the zoo, nice restaurants, and so on. The big thing that has happened to North Dakota is the Oil and Natural Gas BOOM in the Western part of the state.

With the rapid influx of workers coming to the state, places to live were not available.  They built what is called "Mancamps" and this is what they look like.

The highlight of my trip will be going to the Greatest Show in the West called the Medora Musical. It is held in a 3,852 set Burning Hills Amphithetre from June 7th to September 7th.

This professionally produced high energy, western style musical is proudly dedicated to the legacy of America's 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt and the time he spent there in the North Dakota Badlands. Each show pays tribute to American patriotism and the Old West.

Beautiful In The Bay, SUMMER in Bismarck, ND

Today is the first day of Summer.  It is the longest day of the year and lasts until September 22nd.

I was born and raised in North Dakota near Bismarck. I now live in Davenport, WA but always spend a month or two in Bismarck in the summer time.. My son, Morgan, 3 grandchildren and my first Great Granddaughter live there. My sister and her family live there, as do other relatives and lots of friends.

Bismarck's 19-story Art Deco capitol dominates the cityscape as the tallest building in the entire state. Its grounds include historical and cultural institutions including the State Supreme Court, the State Library and the Liberty Memorial. Stretching along the Missouri River, the Great Plains city is home to extensive parks, hiking trails and golf courses, as well as the Dakota Zoo and the Super Slide Amusement Park.
Here is a picture of the Capitol Building and grounds.  (In the Summertime)

SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex standing in the foyer of the church staring up at a large plaque. It was covered with names and small American flags mounted on either side of it. The six year old had been staring at the plazue for some time, so the pastor walked up to him, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, "Good Morning Alex."

"Good Morning Pastor", he replied, still focused on the plaque. "Pastor, what is this?"

The Pastor said, "Well son, it's a Memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service."

Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque. Finally, little Alex's voice, barely audible and trembling with fear asked,

"Which Service, the 8:30 or the 11:00?"

How Do Nicknames Start?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sister, Dolly!

Of course, Dolly is not her real name and this is how she got to be nicknamed Dolly.  I was 3 years old when she was born and I kept calling her "a little doll", and that becaame Dolly.  The year before my baby brother was born and I kept calling him "little man" and he became Manny for the rest of his life.

Since I was the oldest, I never got a kickname.  That is why I sometimes use the short version, Vel.

I love this picture of the three of us, Manny, Vel and Dolly

When I was 10, my little sister was born.  She was named Leona and nicknamed Nonie. Here she is with our sister-in-law, June, Nonie is in the middle and the birthday girl, Dolly.

Happy Father's Day!

On July 19, 1910, the governor of the U.S. state of Washington proclaimed the nation’s first "Father’s Day." However, it was not until 1972, 58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day official, that the day became a nationwide holiday in the United States.

Thinking of my Father today.  He passed away on May 2, 1972

Front row:  My Dad, my Mom and my brother, Louis
Back row:  My sister, Una Mae, me and my sister, Leona

I always read my hometown newspaper online when I get up in the morning. This morning there is a very interesting article about a STAY AT HOME DAD.  I would like to share it with you.

Dad Staying Home Works For Some Families

Troy Bradley coaxes Sam, 2, to eat a grape during breakfast at their Bismarck home last week. Bradley and his wife Mandy, an emergency room doctor at St. Alexius Medical Center, decided that Troy as a stay-at-home dad was a better choice than taking their three boys to day care.

Last week, as Troy Bradley was getting a ride home from a shop where he was having his vehicle serviced, the driver asked, "So, what to you do?"

It’s a question Bradley has been hearing for about the last four years.

"I stay at home," was his response.

Bradley is one of a growing number of fathers who stay at home with the kids while the mother works, financially supporting the family.

Bradley and his wife, Mandy, have three young sons: Ben, 5; Sam, who turned 2 Thursday; and Eli, 3 months.

An optician for 10 years in Beulah, Bradley returned to college at North Dakota State University, earning a degree in computer science in 2002.

Mandy Bradley is an emergency room physician at St. Alexius Medical Center, working rotating shifts. About the time Ben, their oldest son turned 2, their careers began to create some conflict.

Troy Bradley said his wife is scheduled to work today, Father’s Day, and the "boys" in the family have no definite plans.

He said his dad was planning to come down Saturday and build a sandbox and after that project, "We might go play some golf."

"We were pretty hit and miss for awhile," Mandy Bradley said. "It was hand the baby off and go to work."

With her income as a physician, they decided he would stay home to take care of their son.

Bradley said for the first year, he found himself feeling the need to defend himself as a stay-at-home dad when people asked what he did for a living.

He worked remotely from home for a few months until son number two, Sam, came along.

The Bradleys are making it work — with Mandy Bradley working shifts, her days off often come in blocks of three or four — and that means more time together as a family.

He takes care of the day-to-day around the house, chores, meal preparation and shopping.

He said his mother, Karen, was a stay-at-home mom, so he had a good teacher.

"I have gained a new appreciation for how she did everything she did," Bradley said.

He has developed what he thinks is a pretty good system during the course of the almost four years he has been "Mr. Mom."

"I’m a list maker," said. "I like to work on one thing, finish it and then cross it off the list."

That works for chores, but not all. "Laundry," he laughed. I don’t think you’re ever done with that."

He does find time to get away for a little time for himself, At the YMCA he’s met more than a few other dads who are in the same situation.

He said he golfs and fishes a little and plays in a pool league and mentors youth through his church.

Bradley said there are groups locally called M.O.P.S., mothers of pre-schoolers and there is an inside joke with other dads that they should organize a P.O.P.S. club, or papas of preschoolers.

He still dabbles in web design and other computer programming and once their boys are older, he will return to the work force.

But for now, he’s relishing the opportunity to be around his sons as they grow, being able to see those "firsts" that many dads miss.

Celebrating Flag Day

Why do we Celebrate Flag Day?

It goes back to June 14, 1777. That is when the Second Continental Congress passed a resoluation stating that "the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white" and that "the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." This is according to the History Chanel.
We have learned that Betsy Ross designed the flag, however don't be so sure about it. The History Channel explains it this way:
"To this day, no one knows WHO designed the flag or why that particuar color combination and pattern were chosen. Although legand holds that Betsy Ross made the first American flag in 1776 after being asked to do so by Washington, primary sources backing up that assertion are scarce."
And that is why we celebrate Flag Day. The Flag today consists of the thirteen stripes for the union and 50 stars for the states.
When did we begin celebrating Flag Day?
In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that established a nationwide observance of Flag Day to be on June 14th.

If you were born on Flag Day, June 14th, then this SendOutCard is for you.  It is also for my sister-in-law, Merilyn Mandigo who lives in Westhope, ND

SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT

Many years ago, there was a little boy who lived in the country. The family had to use an outhouse, and the little boy hated it because it was so hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter and stank all of the time. The outhouse was sitting on the bank of a creek and the boy was determined that one day he would push that old Outhouse straight into the creek!

One day after a spring rain, the creek was swollen so the little boy decided, TODAY WAS THE DAY to push the outhouse into the creek. He found a large stick and started pushing. Finally, the outhouse toppled into the creek and floated away.

That night his dad told him they were going to the woodshed after supper. Knowing that meant a spanking, the little boy asked why.

The dad replied, "Someone pushed the outhouse into the creek today. It was you, wasn't it son?"

The boy answered yes. Then he thought a moment and said, "Dad, I read in school today that George Washington chopped down a cherry tree and didn't get into trouble because he told the truth."

The dad replied, "Well, son, George Washington's father wasn't in the cherry tree!"

Do You Finish What You Started?

How many of you have started something and decided later you didn't want to finish it?  Do  you feel like it's a bad thing not to finish something you started?

First of all, the reason you decide to stop what you are doing, can be a variety of things.
  • You have doubts that it will actually be a benefit
  • Whatever you were doing, you realize the idea was boring
  • It no longer excites you
  • When it didn't involve other people in your life
  • When you realized it seriously sucked!
When you start feeling like you should stop, drop or not start a project, it is probably better to stop if you have doubts and regroup a little.  Think about the pros and cons of what would happen if you stopped or dropped a project.

Or if you didn't try a program, such as SendOutCards, it's better to hesitate and ask yourself these questions.
  • Is SendOutCards something I can easily do?
  • Is SendOutCards really less expensive than greeting cards at the store?
  • Does SendOutCards offer a method of making some extra money online?
  • Can I trust the person writing this blog?
To find the answers, take a look inside the SendOutCards website.  Send a FREE card on me today.  Just   Click Here

What Happens When You Blink?

A friend of mine, Charnell, answered that question best with pictures.........

"Here is my first grandchild, Elly, born on September 25, 1995."

"And just as I blinked, here she is on June 8, 2013, graduating from High School."

SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT

A small, short guy is sitting at the bar just staring at his drink for half an hour when this big, trouble-making biker steps next to him, grabs his drink, gulps it down in one swig and then."turns to the guy with a menacing stare as if to say, "What'cha gonna do about it?"

The poor little guy starts crying.

"Come on man, I was just giving you a hard time" the biker says. "I didn't think you'd CRY. I can't stand to see a man crying."

"This is the worst day of my life, " says the little buy between sobs. "I can't do anything right. I overslept and was late to an important meetiing, so my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car was stolen and I don't have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home."

He continues, crying even harder. "Then I found out my wife was having an affair with the gardner and my dog bit me. So, I came to this bar trying to work up the courage to put an end to my miserable life,...............

and then YOU show up and Drink the Darn Poison."
